What happens to your file
Everything below happens inside your browser, on your own device. The PDF is never uploaded, so nobody else, including us, can see it.
- Your browser reads the PDF into memory. Nothing is sent over the network.
- Page previews are drawn on your device with pdf.js, the PDF viewer built into Firefox.
- The pages you keep are copied exactly as they are. Nothing is re-compressed, so nothing gets blurrier.
- Links between pages you keep still work. Links to pages you leave out are removed, so nothing points to a missing page.
- Bookmarks for the pages you keep stay. Bookmarks for pages you leave out are dropped.
- Form fields on the pages you keep stay fillable.
- Choose a PDF
- Pick pages or where to cut
- Press the button
- Download the files or a ZIP
How to split a PDF
- Choose a PDF. A preview of every page appears.
- To keep some pages, tap them or type page numbers such as 1-3, 8. The quick buttons pick odd or even pages. Typing 3, 1, 2 puts the pages in that order.
- To cut the PDF into files, choose “Split into files”, then every few pages or your own ranges. You can also tap the scissors between two pages to cut there. A list shows which pages go into each file before you start.
- Press the button. Download each file on its own, or all of them together in one ZIP.
When people use it
Send only the pages that matter
A form may need only the signed page or one certificate, not the whole scan.
Split a stack of scans
When a scanner saved a whole pile of documents as one PDF, cut it back into separate files.
Remove pages
Leave out blank pages or appendices by keeping everything else.
Share one chapter
Send one chapter of a report or textbook instead of the whole file.
What it can’t do
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened. Remove the password first.
- Every file made by splitting must work on its own, so fonts and images shared by several pages are stored in each file. Many small files can together be several times bigger than the original.
- Links to pages you leave out are removed, together with any coloured box drawn around them.
- Accessibility tags used by screen readers are not carried over.
- Very large files can be slow on older phones. Previews appear as you scroll.
Questions about splitting PDFs
How do I delete pages from a PDF?
Choose “Pick pages”, tap the pages you want to remove so they are no longer selected, then extract. Everything else is kept.
Can I change the page order?
Yes. Type the pages in the order you want, for example 3, 1, 2. The new file follows that order.
Does splitting lower the quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, without re-compressing anything.
Why are the split files bigger than I expected?
Each file must open on its own, so fonts and images used on several pages are stored in every file.
Can I split by file size?
Not yet. Split by pages, then use Compress PDF on any file that is still too big.
