What happens to your file

Everything below happens inside your browser, on your own device. The PDF is never uploaded, so nobody else, including us, can see it.

  1. Your browser reads the PDF into memory. Nothing is sent over the network.
  2. Page previews are drawn on your device with pdf.js, the PDF viewer built into Firefox.
  3. Nothing changes until you press Save. Every move, turn and delete is only a plan on screen, so you can undo it.
  4. When you save, the pages you keep are copied in your new order exactly as they are. Nothing is re-compressed, so nothing gets blurrier.
  5. Turning a page only changes its rotation setting, added to any turn it already had. The text and images on the page are not redrawn.
  6. Links and bookmarks that lead to pages you keep still work after the pages move. Links to deleted pages are removed, so nothing points to a missing page.
  7. Form fields on the pages you keep stay fillable.

How to organize a PDF

  1. Choose a PDF. Every page appears as a preview with its original page number.
  2. To move a page, drag it to its new place. On a phone, press and hold the page first, then drag. You can also select pages and use the move-to-start or move-to-end buttons in the bar.
  3. To turn or delete pages, select them by tapping or clicking (Shift-click selects a range), then use the buttons in the bar. On a computer, each page also has its own buttons.
  4. Deleted pages stay in place, faded. Press “Restore” to bring one back, or “Undo” to step back one change.
  5. Prefer typing? Open “Type page order” and enter something like 5, 1, 3-4, 6-15. Pages you leave out are removed.
  6. Press “Save PDF” and download the new file.

When people use it

Remove blank or extra pages

Scans often pick up the blank backs of pages or a cover sheet. Delete them before you send the file.

Fix the order of a scan

When pages went through the scanner out of order, drag them back into place instead of scanning again.

Put the important page first

Move the page a reader needs most, such as a signed form or a summary, to the front.

Tidy up a merged file

After merging several PDFs, delete the extra cover pages and turn any sideways pages in one go.

What it can’t do

  • One PDF at a time. To combine files, merge them first with Merge PDF, then organize the result.
  • Pages turn in quarter turns only. A slightly crooked scan cannot be straightened.
  • Pages cannot be duplicated, and blank pages cannot be added.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened. Remove the password first.
  • Accessibility tags used by screen readers are not carried over, and page labels (such as i, ii, iii) are not kept.
  • Files with hundreds of pages work, but previews appear as you scroll and can be slow on older phones.

Questions about organizing PDFs

How do I delete pages from a PDF?

Select the pages and press the delete button in the bar, or use the delete button on a page. Deleted pages fade instead of vanishing, so you can restore them until you save. Then press “Save PDF”.

How do I change the page order?

Drag pages to where you want them. On a phone, press and hold a page before dragging. Or type the order, such as 3, 1, 2, in “Type page order”.

Will the page numbers printed on the pages change?

No. Numbers printed on a page are part of the page and stay as they are. The numbers on the previews are the original page numbers, to help you keep track.

Does it lower the quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are. Nothing is re-compressed or redrawn.

What happens to bookmarks and links?

They follow their pages to the new positions. Links to a deleted page are removed. A bookmark for a deleted page is removed too, unless it holds bookmarks for pages you kept.

I made a mistake. Can I go back?

Yes. “Undo” steps back one change at a time. After saving, “Back to editing” returns you to your pages as you left them.
